After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, Ian Vance returned to his hometown of Lynchburg, VA to become a paralegal at the Virginia Legal Aid Society. Shortly after working at legal aid, Ian discovered his passion for assisting clients in need with limited resources. This passion ultimately led him to attend the University of Richmond School of Law. Ian graduated in 2014 and passed the Virginia Bar in 2014.
During his time in law school, Ian continued his passion for public interest by being a student manager for the University of Richmond Harry L. Carrico Center for Pro Bono Service. He was responsible for organizing various pro bono programs for both students and local practitioners. During his summers, Ian clerked at the Virginia Poverty Law Center and Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. For all of his hard work and commitment to public interest, Ian was awarded the 2014 Public Interest Law Association Pro Bono Award and the Harry L. Carrico Center Pro Bono Certificate.
Post-graduation, Ian received a fellowship through the University of Richmond School of Law that allowed him work as a staff attorney at Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. During this fellowship, Ian gained valuable litigation experience by trying cases in both judicial and administrative proceedings. Ian focused on consumer law issues and successfully negotiated a substantial settlement against a major national bank.
Ian is an avid soccer fan and plays in several leagues across Richmond. He also enjoys playing golf, tennis and softball. When inspiration hits, he has even been known to paint a picture.
